A Look From the Past, Restored to the Present

ReInhabit acquired this traditional style home which was built in 1941 on a quiet street in Atwater Village. Offering classic LA charm in a great location, it was the kind of house that someone might slap some paint onto for a quick flip. But we have never taken the easy route. Our team found that the original kitchen, bathroom and fixtures of 3147 Atwater Avenue were virtually untouched, altered only by 70-plus years of wear. It was like a time capsule, down to the wallpaper, built-in ironing board, even the original draperies. Paying every respect to this beautiful relic of LA’s past, we are proud to present the result.

To the home’s original pristine cabinetry, bathroom tile, and pocket doors, we have worked magic. Everything works to the point where it feels “like new.” The biggest alteration to the residence is the second bathroom that has been added, along with a walk-in closet off the Master Bedroom and “secret” laundry nook that’s as ingenious as it is practical. The garage has been re-purposed to become a versatile space for work, play or entertaining. It flows beautifully to a back yard complete with two decks and drought-tolerant landscaping, an ideal environment for socializing or quiet time.

We have prided ourself on creating and finding signature, salvage pieces. Here the imported vintage elements include reclaimed doors, windows and lighting fixtures, which mesh perfectly with restored original oakwood floors. Upgrades include plumbing, electrical, and a new heating and air conditioning system. 3147 Atwater Avenue: a functional modern residence that feels lifted from another place and time.
